Karilyn Bentley Visits the Corner With Her DEMON LORE

Welcome to the Book Corner. Today I’m happy to welcome Karilyn Bentley. Please tell us a little about your book, an urban fantasy, right?

Hi Barb! Thank you so much for having me! I'm excited about my new book. This is my first venture into urban fantasy and I really enjoyed getting into the head of my heroine, Gin. She's a unique character and I hope the reader likes her as much as I do.

Here's a blurb of the story:
Gin Crawford has enough problems dealing with her empath abilities. Finding out she's the world's newest demon-slayer is the last thing she needs. Unfortunately, when she slips on a mysterious bracelet she is given no other choice. On the plus side, her new gig comes with Tall, Dark and Handsome, a mage who may or may not have her best interests at heart. Thrust into a power-play between good and evil, Gin must choose a side before she becomes the next victim in the ongoing battle.

It sounds terrific. Is this your first book? What others have you published?

I have published several other books in the fantasy and paranormal romance genres. I wrote two werewolf novellas which were combined into one anthology, AFTER THE MOON RISES. I also have a series about dragons called Draconia Tales (MAGICAL LOVER, WARRIOR LOVER AND DRAGON LOVER).
What draws you to this genre?

I have always been attracted to the paranormal, no idea why. Maybe because the idea of waving a wand and having the house clean itself interests me. I've yet to find that wand, but I can create stories using magic to draw the reader into a different world, to escape the realities of this life if only for a moment.

What’s your next project? Will it be another featuring demons?

I'm glad you asked! DEMON LORE is the first in a series so I'm working on the second book now. I also have the fourth in the Draconia Tales series coming out. THE DETECTIVE'S DRAGON is in edits. It's keeping me busy!

Love that title! What one tip would you offer writers?

Don't dawdle, write. Unless you have a puppy. Then dawdling's the name of the game.

How do your stories ‘come to you’ at first--through characters, setting, story line?

More the story line. Then the characters. The setting comes last. Although sometimes the characters come first or in conjunction with the story line. It depends on the book.

Do you have a special place you like to write?

I have an office. But now that we have a puppy, I'm more likely to be found at the kitchen table. It keeps puppy quiet to have all her humans in one area. We're not spoiling the dog, nope, we are not.

Aha! So you know about taking time out for puppies :) Otherwise, do you have challenges finding writing time?

See the above-mentioned puppy. She's very demanding of my time. I also work a day job which keeps most of my hours busy.

Yes, darn it. Those day jobs do take up the time! Thanks so much for being here today. I've so enjoyed it. Please come back again.

Thank you Barb! I'd be happy to return!!

Stephen and Evie's story featured today: The Heart of the Phoenix

This is the last day of our Christmas Blog Blitz and THE HEART OF THE PHOENIX is featured! So I'm thrilled to share Stephen and Evie's blub.
Some call him a ruthless mercenary; she calls him the knight of her heart.
Memories                                                                                            Lady Evelynn’s childhood hero is home—bitter, hard, tempting as sin. And haunted by secrets. A now-grown Evie offers friendship, but Sir Stephen's cruel rejection crushes her, and she resolves to forget him. Yet when an unexpected war throws them together, she finds love isn’t so easy to dismiss. If only the king hadn’t betrothed her to another.
Can be  cruel                                                                                                                                            Sir Stephen lives a double life while he seeks the treacherous outlaws who murdered his friends. Driven by revenge, he thinks his heart is closed to love. His childhood shadow, Lady Evie, unexpectedly challenges that belief. He rebuffs her, but he can’t forget her, although he knows she’s to wed the king’s favorite.
And deadly                                                                                                                                        When his drive for vengeance leads to Evie’s kidnapping, Stephen must choose between retribution and the love he’s denied too long. Surely King John will see reason.Convict the murderers; convince the king. Simple. Until a startling revelation threatens everything

Medieval Romance, An Ancient Curse-Great New Stories by Louise Lyndon and Barbara Edwards

Happy Friday! As we continue the Christmas Book Blitz I’m so happy to welcome a medieval and a contemporary paranormal/fantasy involving an ancient curse.

The medieval is by new author, Louise Lyndon. I love seeing medieval stories—the more the merrier for our historical readers.

Of Love and Vengeance by Louise Lyndon
Forced to marry Lord Aymon to ensure her nephews survival, English Lady Laila vows undying hatred for the Norman she holds responsible for so many deaths. Discovering Aymon has committed an act of treason gives her the chance to seek vengeance he deserves.  But will Laila really let Aymon die once she learns the truth?

A hardened Norman warrior, Lord Aymon has lived through atrocities no man ever should. With the invasion of England over, all he wants is a quiet life and a wife who will give him heirs and obey his every command. Instead, he finds himself wed to feisty and outspoken Laila. But when she learns the truth of his treasonous act, can Aymon count on her to keep his secret?

And Barbara Edwards gives us another exciting entry in her Finding Rhodes series. And see below for links to her earlier two--both exciting!

THE ANCIENT CURSE-Finding Rhodes End Book Three

Evil never dies. And this time it wanted Rainie. It wanted more than her life, it wanted her soul. The artifacts Rainie Gamble handled came from every era and she could read their past with a touch. After her Father’s deceit, she’d lost her beloved career until Thomas hired her.
Thomas Broquette needed Rainie for more than her psychic ability. She would unknowingly bring her father into his reach. Thomas needed him to return the stolen paintings in Mason’s estate. He needed Rainie to destroy the evil items Mason left behind. Then he realized he needed her for much, much more.

Changing took a few minutes. She pressed her hand to her throbbing forehead and  studied her reflection in the mirror. Pain lined her forehead. She wondered why Thomas’ touch eased it. Her tangled hair had escaped her twist and needed combing. Humming, she took the time to neaten it.
Silence enveloped the second floor. With the power off, the soft music she played in her bedroom had been silenced. She half expected her footsteps to echo when she exited the room and walked down the hall.

Thomas had probably finished mopping up, and she needed to lock her computer and file her notes  before the back-up battery failed.

Her pulse beat faster. She looked forward to spending some time with him. Hopefully, he was still in the library. She shook her head. She paused as the hair on her nape stirred like she was being watched.

A cool draft washed over her nape and she glanced back along the hall. All the doors had been closed. They still were. She frowned, and then shook the feeling off.  No-one watched although her skin itched.

Pausing to enjoy the light emotions held by the smooth banister, she stroked the wood.

A violent shove between her shoulders tumbled her down the stairs like a thrown doll.
